Berlin – a Mediterranean cultural capital?

Geographically, Germany is definitely not a Mediterranean country, but politically and culturally more and more so. And Berlin is one of the leading Mediterranean cultural capitals, with hundreds of thousands of Berliners having their roots around the Mediterranean and who contribute to a very lively artistic and cultural scene. The panel wants to highlight the cultural wealth in the German capital and foster strong links between the artists who have Mediterranean roots in Berlin and a wider German public.
Speaker:
🎤 Ali Kaaf – born in Oran, Algeria to Syrian parents, the Fine Artist Ali Kaaf lives and works in Berlin. He graduated from the Institut des Beaux-Arts in Beirut, Lebanon, and continued his studies at Universität der Künste (UdK) in Berlin. Having lived in several Mediterranean countries and finding in Berlin a new home, we are curious to hear his thought on “Berlin as a Mediterranean cultural capital.
🎤 Beqë Cufaj – is a Kosovo Albanian writer and journalist. From 2018 to 2021, Cufaj was the ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo to Germany. We look forward to learning more about his literary and political viewpoints on the German capital.
🎤 Leila Al Bayati – the Franco-Iraqi filmmaker and musician directed, starred in, and produced the film “Berlin Telegram.” For her, Neukölln (Berlin) was and is a refuge and a source of inspiration.
