Dia do Mediterrâneo

Start date: 11/28/2021
End date: 11/28/2021

The National Archive of Torre do Tombo (Portugal) is associated to this event with the publication on its webpage of a set of Treaties from its documental collection that, throughout history, were signed with some of the Mediterranean countries, a memory of a common past that must be valued and promoted.

Every year a different Treaty will be published on this commemorative date.

On Mediterranean Day 2021 we will show the “Ratification by Sultan Abdul Medjid Khan, Ottoman Emperor, of the Treaty of Friendship, Commerce and Navigation, in 17 articles, concluded with Queen Maria II of Portugal” on 2 June 1843 (ANTT, Tratados, Turquia, cx. 1, n.º 2).

The cover is in red velvet and white moirée decorated in gold, plans with the imperial arms (crescent and star) in the centre, with a seal in a silver gilt box, pendant by gold and red threads and tassels in the same colour. The text is written in Turkish-Ottoman, with French translation.

Here’s a quick snapshot of what the International Mediterranean Day logo can and can’t be used for.
