A Sea of Words – Awards Ceremony and Concert in Barcelona

Start date: 11/08/2023
End date: 11/08/2023

The youth literary competition “A Sea of Words” is preparing a special event for the awards ceremony of its 16th edition, in which it combines its mission to amplify the literary voices of young people in the region with the goals of the Mediterranean Youth Academy, an initiative now in its 3rd edition in Barcelona, aiming to empower young individuals to become key actors in creating a better future in the region.

The awards ceremony is taking place on November 8th, starting at 8:00 PM, at the iconic Born Cultural Center in Barcelona, and is open to the citizens of Barcelona. In addition to the awards presentation, it features an interesting discussion on the theme of the 2023 edition of the competition, as well as a Mediterranean roots concert with OMßRA band.

The debate on “Artificial Intelligence and Youth: Ethical Commitment and Critical Thinking” includes Edgar Pons, digital entrepreneur and content creator, and the young author awarded the 1st prize of the “A Sea of Words” 2023 edition.

The event will be introduced by Senén Florensa, executive president of the IEMed, Josep Ferré, executive director of the Anna Lindh Foundation, and Andrés Perelló, general director of Casa Mediterráneo, and have welcoming remarks by Nasser Kamel, Secretary-General of the Union for the Mediterranean, and Miquel Royo, Foreign Affairs Secretary of the Catalan Government.

Elisabetta Bartuli, the contest international jury’s president, will present the A Sea of Words 2023 edition and the three first prizes.

Among the audience, there will also be young attendees from various Euro-Mediterranean countries who are participating in the 3rd Mediterranean Youth Academy, hosted by the Union for the Mediterranean, which is being held from 6 to 9 of November 2023 in Barcelona, back-to-back with the High-Level Launch Event of the UfM Youth Action Plan.

As in previous editions, the young authors of the top ten stories from the 2023 edition of the literary competition will participate in a creative workshop the following day at the Sala Beckett (a center for theatrical creation, training, and experimentation). They will also take part in a cultural visit around the city and a guided tour to the “Artificial Intelligence” exhibition at the Contemporary Culture Center of Barcelona (CCCB).
