Celebrating the island of Korčula in the Mediterranean

Start date: 11/28/2022
End date: 11/28/2022

The island of Korčula does not just lie on the Mediterranean, it is profoundly immersed in it. A sea of events will be launched as the sun shines at its brightest with a human installation of an olive branch. The variety of events will celebrate the omnipresence of a sea that whether stormy or serene, always touches people on this picturesque island. Readings from the opus of the island’s most famous modernist writer Petar Šegedin will reflect on the buoyant senses that the Middle sea inspired in his opus. This will be followed by a curator tour for primary school pupils through the town museum’s wooden shipbuilding exhibition, for centuries a source of wealth and local pride. A short lecture will reflect on the importance of the Mediterranean in the island’s culture and history. The culmination of the day will be a presentation of several videos project that the town’s high school school children and their teachers created through exploring what the Mediterranean means to them through the senses.
