Research in transportation planning: experiences and case studies

Start date: 11/20/2023
End date: 11/20/2023

The Seminar “Research in transportation planning: experiences and case studies” has the aim to present the research activities of some laboratories, which are part of academic institutions, operating in the field of transportation planning.

The Laboratory for Transport Systems Analysis was founded at the Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria in 1991. The laboratory carries out researches in transport systems engineering: analysis, simulation, evaluation, design and planning of transport systems; monitoring and analysis of vehicular traffic flows; city logistics; maritime freight transport and ports; risk on transport systems. It also carries out advanced training activities related to public transport, freight transport and Intelligent Transportation Systems.

The SUM+LAB is the dynamic traffic and public transport modeling laboratory that was born in 2014 thanks to the collaboration with the City Council of the city of. Santander, the Ministry of Economy of the Government of Spain and within the regional development aid program of the European Union.
The Roads, Railways and Airports Laboratory operates as a research facility in the field of soils for transport infrastructure applications, as well as in the field of characterising asphalt, its constituent elements (aggregate and binder), cement and bituminous mixtures, through to the monitoring of functional parameters (adhesion, regularity, bearing capacity) of road superstructures (using high-performance tests).
The main focus of the L.E.D.A. Research Centre’s Structures Laboratory is in the field of seismic risk mitigation of the existing building stock and in the field of anti-seismic design of new structures and infrastructures using innovative technologies and criteria, with the possibility of performing combinations of complex numerical analyses and advanced experimental investigations even on full-scale samples.
