CELEBRATING THE MEDITERRANEAN
Der Tag des Mittelmeerraums bietet jedes Jahr die Gelegenheit, den interkulturellen Austausch zu fördern, die Zusammenarbeit zu feiern, die Vielfalt zu begrüßen und die Beziehungen zwischen unseren beiden Küsten zu stärken. Wir feiern unsere gemeinsame Identität, unser gemeinsames Erbe und unsere Liebe zum Mittelmeer.
Es ist eine Erinnerung daran, dass unsere Gemeinsamkeiten unsere Unterschiede weitgehend überwiegen und dass wir alle eine mediterrane Identität teilen.
Der Tag des Mittelmeerraums 2024 – Die nächste Welle: der Aufbau eines gemeinsamen morgen
2024 ist ein Jahr wie kein anderes. Da die Fristen der Agenda 2030 der Vereinten Nationen für nachhaltige Entwicklung schnell näher rücken und sich die verschiedenen Krisen auf der Welt vervielfachen, liegt es an uns, den Mittelmeerraum so zu gestalten, wie wir ihn sehen, auf der Grundlage von Widerstandsfähigkeit, Zusammenarbeit und einer besseren Zukunft für alle.
So wie unser Mittelmeer über ein beispielloses Kulturerbe von Weltrang und eine Fülle an Traditionen verfügt, ist es auch ein Hotspot der Biodiversität und Geodiversität und Heimat einer Vielzahl einzigartiger Lebensräume und Arten.
Das Mittelmeer zu feiern bedeutet, das Leben in vollem Ausmaß und seiner ganzen Fülle zu feiern. Dieses uralte Meer, um das wir leben, hat der Welt ihre größten Zivilisationen, ihre frühesten Akademien und Universitäten, ihre ersten Dramatiker und Philosophen und ihre berühmtesten Handelszentren beschert.
Der Tag des Mittelmeerraums zielt darauf ab, jedes Jahr einen einzigartigen Impuls zu schaffen, um die positiven Kooperationen in der Region sichtbar zu machen. Er erinnert ebenfalls daran, dass wir alle eine mediterrane Identität teilen, wobei die kulturelle Dimension ein wichtiger Bestandteil dessen ist, wer wir sind und woher wir kommen.
Er bietet die Möglichkeit, Projekte und Initiativen zu starten sowie Veranstaltungen, Rundtischgespräche, Ausstellungen und Festivals in der gesamten Region abzuhalten, um die Beziehungen zwischen unseren Küsten zu stärken, den interkulturellen Austausch zu fördern und Vielfalt zu fördern.
Was kann ich dazu beitragen?
Jeder spielt eine Rolle. Egal, ob Sie eine im Bereich der Zusammenarbeit tätige Organisation, eine öffentliche Verwaltung, eine private Einrichtung oder ein Bürger sind, der das Mittelmeer liebt, Sie können Teil der Bewegung sein!

Today we celebrate the Mediterranean — a sea located at the crossroads of three major maritime passages (Gibraltar, Suez, Bosporus), making it one of the most strategic and vital routes for European and global trade.
At the same time, it’s a space ...that connects cultures, people and histories.
As part of our Erasmus+ KA2 project innoantidote we honour this day by promoting youth cooperation, innovation and meaningful dialogue across the Mediterranean region.
Together, we empower young people to build bridges and create positive impact.

🌊 La regió mediterrània s’escalfa un 20% més ràpid que la resta del món i per això és necessari adaptarla als reptes més urgents, un d'ells les inundacions.
Aquesta setmana #Barcelona ha reunit més de 130 persones expertes, tècniques i polítiques en l’esdeveniment ...d’Interreg Euro-MED Natural Heritage Mission, coorganitzat pel CREAF i MedCities, per compartir solucions i reforçar la cooperació mediterrània.
S’hi han destacat projectes que ja treballen per protegir el territori i que han treballat en l’àmbit català, i que compten amb l’expertesa de la investigadora Annelies Borekman del CREAF per treballar en la governança i la transferència del coneixement a través de:
🔎 LocAll4Flood: alertes primerenques i solucions basades en la natura.
🔎 Wetland4Change: restauració d’aiguamolls com l’Albufera.
🔎 MedSeaRise: riscos de l’augment del nivell del mar.
El missatge és clar: restaurar la #natura i coordinar-nos és essencial per preparar-nos davant les inundacions que vindran.

L’Institut océanographique de Monaco s’engage activement pour la création et le soutien de ces zones essentielles à la protection de la Méditerranée et des océans.

🌊 Lancé en 1995, le Processus de Barcelone fédère les pays des deux rives autour d’un objectif commun : faire de la Méditerranée un espace de stabilité, de développement durable et de coopération ...renforcée.
🌱 L’AFLE s’inscrit pleinement dans cette dynamique, en soutenant la coopération transfrontalière pour la préservation du littoral catalan français et espagnol.
On contribue à construire une Méditerranée plus durable, inclusive et résiliente, fidèle à l’esprit du Processus de Barcelone : unir nos forces pour mieux protéger notre avenir commun.
🤝 Préserver la Méditerranée n’est possible qu’en coopérant.

Today, we honour the richness, diversity, and shared heritage of the Mediterranean region — a space that has connected communities, cultures, and ecosystems for centuries.
Why 28 November?
On this day in 1995, the first Euro-Mediterranean ...Conference in Barcelona launched the Barcelona Process, a framework built on a shared commitment to peace, stability, security, and prosperity across the region. Mediterranean Day reminds us of that ongoing promise: to keep moving forward together, even in the face of challenges.
As we celebrate, EFFECTIVE and its partners reaffirm their dedication to preserving and restoring the Mediterranean Sea. By combining robust scientific research, cutting-edge technology, and active community participation, we strive to safeguard this vital ecosystem and ensure its resilience for generations to come.

Mediterranean Fisheries at a Turning Point: Progress and Challenges Revealed in the GFCM Report
🌊 On Mediterranean Day, WWF welcomes the encouraging signs highlighted in the newly launched State of Mediterranean and Black Sea Fisheries (SoMFi 2025) by fao’s General Fisheries Commission for... the Mediterranean (GFCM)—but warns that the job is far from done.
Fisheries are central to food security, livelihoods, and culture in the Mediterranean, yet they face cumulative pressures from overfishing, climate change, and habitat degradation.
✅ Positive trends:
• Fishing pressure down 50% since 2013
• Biomass up 25%, sustainable stocks doubled
• Overexploited stocks reduced from 87% in 2013 to 52% in 2025
⚠ Persisting challenges:
• Overexploitation hotspots remain; 52% of stocks still overexploited
• High bycatch of sharks, rays, and turtles, especially in the Central/Eastern Med and Adriatic
• Marine litter increasing, with trawlers reporting more debris in catches
👩👩👧👦 People matter too:
Small-scale fisheries make-up 81% of the fleet, women hold more than 25% of jobs along the value chain, and youth participation remains low despite recent gains.
The Mediterranean cannot afford to loose momentum. Let’s scale up enforcement and ecosystem-based management to secure healthy seas and thriving coastal communities.

Estoy sumamente agradecida y feliz por tener la oportunidad de difundir las artes, la historia y tradiciones del Levante Mediterráneo.
Hoy es 28 de Noviembre el Día Internacional del Mediterráneo, promovido por ufmsecretariat. En esta celebración, me inspiré para crear #Zaytun 🫒 nuestro programa socio cultural con aiwacademy , y me alegra compartir que este evento es parte de estas celebraciones.

Together with mission_blue, we’re supporting vellmari_formentera to restore these vital habitats — giving the Mediterranean the resilience it needs for the future.
Because when we care for seagrass, we care for the entire sea.
