The Olive Oil, symbol of the Mediterranean
Event to commemorate the Mediterranean Day-Olive Oil Tasting by the youth

On November 28, the Mediterranean Day will be celebrated for the first time. To commemorate this event, the ENI CBC MED Programme, through its Branch Office for Western Mediterranean, together with the Europe Direct Valencian Region office, will organize a Mediterranean olive oil tasting on Tuesday, November 30th. It will also serve to commemorate the International Olive Tree Day, which takes place every November 26.
There is no doubt that olive oil is one of the symbols of our culture, our gastronomy and our landscapes. The olive branch is also used as a symbol of peace, as rapprochement of cultures. This is why in this 1st edition of the Mediterranean Day, a tasting of olive oils from different Mediterranean countries will be organized at the premises of the Valencia Region, where the ENI CBC MED Branch Office is located.
A group of 20 young boys and girls coming from a school from Valencia area will have the opportunity to discover how olive oil is made and how to appreciate the good ones. A professor from the University of Jaén -partners of the ENI CBC MED ARTOLIO project- will discover them all the secrets of this product. Then, the young participants will have the opportunity to try different oils from up to 13 Mediterranean neighbouring countries and learn about the importance of this product in our economy, our health, and our history. The young students will rate the oils through a blind tasting and the best ranked will be awarded in a brief ceremony.
The event will be preceded by an online awareness campaign led by the ARTOLIO project to give visibility to small oil producers across the Mediterranean. A video of the event will be recorded and published afterwards. Stay tuned!
