The Mediterranean, a journey through the senses

When asked what the Mediterranean means to you, everyone’s answer will be different, and yet a reminder of a shared identity. The music and food that can immediately evoke fond memories. Sitting in the shade of an olive tree or looking out across any of the many unique skylines in a moment of peace and connection with nature. Transcending cultures and generations, the possibilities are endless.

So, how do you feel? Which of your senses are stirred by just that word, Mediterranean?

On March 21st, PAM celebrates the 15th edition of Mediterranean Day. This day serves as an opportunity for our parliamentarians and partners to unite and tackle the critical challenges facing us all. The theme for MedDay 2023 is the fight against Environmental Crimes, which have increased ...worldwide, making it the fourth largest criminal activity globally. Additionally, the profits from these crimes finance other organized criminal activities, further exacerbating the issue.

This year, PAM MPs recorded video messages to express how the Mediterranean Day inspires them and the significance of fighting environmental crimes. Hon. Giacomo Simoncini (San Marino) highlights the extremely lucrative aspect of environmental crimes and the difficulty to “detect, prosecute and punish” them, which make them attractive to other organized crime organizations.
